North Dallas Relief for Plantar Fasciitis

plantar fasciitis north Dallas

Plantar fasciitis is a common and often painful foot condition that involves inflammation or micro-tearing of the plantar fascia— the thick band of connective tissue that runs from the heel to the ball of the foot. The plantar fascia plays a critical role in supporting the arch of the foot and absorbing shock during walking, running, and jumping.

Symptoms of plantar fasciitis include a sharp pain in the heel when walking, especially with the first steps of the morning or after a period of prolonged sitting, and tenderness at the bottom of the heel or the arch of the foot.  Pain may subside to a dull ache during light movement or activity but increase with high-impact work.

While plantar fasciitis is most often an overuse condition from repetitive running and jumping activities or regularly spending long hours standing, it can also be an acute injury from a sudden increase in activity level.

Body alignment and quality of movement can also contribute to the condition.  Poor foot mechanics (flat feet, high arches, over-pronation,) bio-mechanic issues (weak foot and hip stabilizers, an overly tight calf muscle or Achilles tendon,) and improper footwear that doesn’t help with shock absorption can also be factors.

DTX Sports Medicine in North Dallas takes a multi-faceted approach to treating plantar fasciitis that focuses on reducing pain and inflammation and identifying and correcting any underlying bio-mechanical dysfunction. We offer many specialized therapies and treatment modalities designed to promote soft tissue healing and optimize movement quality.

Manual Therapy & Soft Tissue Techniques

  • Instrument-Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization) breaks down fascial restrictions and scar tissue along the plantar fascia and calf.

  • Active Release Technique (ART) targets tight muscles and adhesions in the foot and lower leg.

  • Myofascial release helps restore tissue mobility and reduce tension across the plantar fascia.

Joint Adjustments & Mobilization

  • Adjustments to the ankle, foot, and spine, especially in the hips and lower back can improve mobility and alignment.

  • Subtalar and midfoot adjustments can improve gait mechanics and reduce fascia strain.

Taping and Support

  • Kinesiology taping for arch and heel support is designed to provide support during movement and help relieve pain, reduce inflammation, and assist with an active recovery.

  • Temporary orthotic support can both reduce strain during activity and help retrain the foot to move properly.

Corrective Exercises & Rehab

  • Prescribed and assisted stretching promotes an improved range of motion as well as the lengthening of the plantar fascia, Achilles tendon, and calf muscle.

  • Individualized strengthening exercises focus on foot intrinsic, toe muscles, calf muscles, and hip stabilizers.

  • Balance and proprioceptive training improves foot mechanics and prevents the recurrence of injury.

Gait & Biomechanical Analysis

  • We provide a thorough evaluation of the quality of movement when walking and running to determine if issues like spinal or foot misalignment, strength imbalances, or poor posture might be contributing to compromised form.

  • If necessary, we can recommend orthotics to temporarily support the arch and correct pronation/supination.

Patient Education

  • Individualized activity modifications can assist in the recovery process.

  • Footwear advice/evaluation can make movement more comfortable.

  • Home exercises help maintain progress.
